Softball: Sagehens Beat Willamette 1-0 Behind Liz Rodarte's Two-Hitter

Box Score

CLAREMONT, CA – The Pomona-Pitzer softball team defeated Willamette University 1-0 on Tuesday afternoon at Wig Beach Field.

On the mound for the Sagehens was freshman Liz Rodarte who pitched a complete game shutout and only allowed two hits and tallied seven strikeouts to pick up her second win of the season.

Pitching for Willamette was junior Jade Smith who went six innings and only surrendered one run on three hits in the loss for the Bearcats.

Pomona-Pitzer scored the only run of the game in the bottom of the second as senior Susanne Boden hit an RBI single to right field to bring home sophomore Kelsey Buchanan to give the Sagehens a 1-0 lead.

Rodarte was able to keep the Willamette hitters off balanced and did not give up a hit until there were two outs in the top of the sixth. This is the second-straight game Rodarte has held a team under four hits as she gave up three hits against Piedmont in her previous outing.

The Sagehens next travel to SCIAC opponent Redlands on Saturday, March 26th at 12:00 p.m.
