Box Score 2 Claremont, Calif. - The Williams Softball team used a pair of five-run innings early in both games and went on to capture 8-4 and 8-3 wins over the Sagehens on Friday afternoon in a non-league doubleheader.
Williams improves its record to 8-1 on the year with the two wins, while the Sagehens fall to 10-14 with the losses.
In the nightcap, the Ephs scored five runs in the second inning to break the game open and take a 6-0 lead and held on for the 8-3 win. Sophomore Quinn Sheehy (pictured) was 2-for-2 with an RBI single for the Sagehens, while senior outfielder Ashley Morello was 2-for-4.
In the opener, Williams used a pair of home runs in the third inning, a three-run shot from Kelsey Cramer and a two-run shot from Margo Beck to take a 5-0 lead. An RBI single from Kelsey Buchanan helped the Sagehens get back to within 5-2, but Williams built an 8-2 lead and withstood a seventh-inning RBI triple from Morello.
Pomona-Pitzer is back in action tomorrow for a doubleheader against SCIAC-leading Whittier, beginning at 12 p.m.
