Sagehens Roll Past New Paltz 16-6

Claremont, Calif. - The Pomona-Pitzer Women's Lacrosse team had 7-0 and 8-0 runs as it pulled away for a 16-6 win over New Paltz on Tuesday morning at the South Athletic Complex. 

With the win, the Sagehens are now 5-1 on the season with the only loss an overtime defeat to CMS. New Paltz falls to 0-2 after also losing in overtime to CMS in its first game on Sunday. 

Sophomore Hannah Christenson (pictured) led the Sagehens with five goals, while sophomore Rebecca Long added four. Junior Ally McLaughlin had a strong all-around effort with two goals, three assists, nine ground balls and four caused turnovers. 

The Hawks scored first, but Pomona-Pitzer scored the next seven goals to take a 7-1 lead. Christenson started the run with back-to-back goals and junior Aubrey Douglass and Long capped it off with back-to-back free position shots.

After New Paltz ended the run with 3:35 left in the first half, the Sagehens capped off the opening stanza with goals from senior Julie Necarsulmer and junior Sarah Markowitz, and then scored the first six goals of the second half to complete an 8-0 run and take a 15-2 lead. New Paltz scored the next four goals before Long capped off the scoring off a McLaughlin feed.

Markowitz finished with two goals and three assists as well, while Long had two assists to lead the Sagehens with six points. Gaby Fukumura had nine saves in goal for Pomona-Pitzer, while Jackie Ulanoff had 12 for the Hawks. 

Pomona-Pitzer will be back in action this week for three games at Colorado College, facing Wesleyan on Thursday, Skidmore on Friday and host Colorado College on Sunday.
