Box Score Orange, Calif. - Junior Aubrey Douglass scored all four of her goals in the second half to lead the Pomona-Pitzer Women's Lacrosse team back from an 8-4 deficit to a 10-9 win on Wednesday evening in a SCIAC road contest.
With the win, the Sagehens improve to 3-0 on the young season, after defeating Whittier and Occidental last week after opening up big early leads.
This time, Pomona-Pitzer had to rally from behind, as Chapman scored the last two goals of the first half and the first two goals of the second half to turn a 4-4 tie into an 8-4 lead.
Sophomore Olivia Cornfield ended the run with a free position goal and Douglass scored her first of the day off a feed from Katie Savino to close the Sagehens within 8-6. After Chapman pushed the lead back to 9-6, Douglass had back-to-back goals to pull Pomona-Pitzer within 9-8 with 12:38 to play.
Sophomore Rebecca Long scored her third of the game to tie the score up with 9:15 left, and after the Sagehens earned a stop on defense, Douglass broke the tie with the eventual game-winner with 4:35 on the clock.
Pomona-Pitzer's defense prevented Chapman from clearing twice in the closing minutes, and when the Panthers were finally able to get into the offensive end, sophomore goalie Gaby Fukumura came up with a key save on Kylee Moore with 13 seconds left to enable the Sagehens to hang on.
Sophomore Sarah Markowitz and freshman Sallie Marx added first half goals for Pomona-Pitzer, while Fukumura ended with five saves, including the biggest one of the night to preserve the one-goal win.
The Sagehens are back in action on Saturday when they host CMS for an 11 a.m. contest at the South Athletic Complex.
