Women's Lacrosse Cruises In Season Opener

Box Score

Claremont, Calif. - Sophomore Hannah Christenson (pictured) and freshman Sallie Marx each scored four goals to lead the Pomona-Pitzer Women's Lacrosse team to a 17-4 win over Whittier in the season opener for both teams on Wednesday evening.

Sophomore Sarah Markowitz added three goals and an assist for the Sagehens, while juniors Aubrey Douglass and Ally McLaughlin each had two goals and three assists.

Pomona-Pitzer led only 2-1 midway through the first half as it had a difficult time beating Whittier goalie Nicole Yorba, who had 11 saves before allowing her third goal (before finishing with 20). However, the Sagehens, who had a 43-9 edge in shots, pulled ahead 8-2 by halftime after the second goals from Douglass and McLaughlin.

The Sagehens were dominant in the midfield, only allowing Whittier to successfully clear five times in 19 attempts, while Pomona-Pitzer was a perfect 10-10.

The Sagehens will be back in action on Saturday for a road game against Occidental.
