Los Angeles, Calif. - Freshman Bianca Cockrell (pictured) threw a four-hit shutout in the opener for the Pomona-Pitzer Softball team, but Occidental rallied from behind in the nightcap as the teams split a doubleheader on Friday.

Pomona-Pitzer won the opener 7-0 and Occidental took the nightcap 7-6 as the Sagehens move to 1-10 overall on the season, and 1-5 in the SCIAC with the split.

Junior Ashley Morello was 5-for-7 in the doubleheader and gave Cockrell all the support she would need in the third inning of the opener, when she tripled and came home on a wild pitch. However, the Sagehens took the pressure off with a six-run sixth inning. Paige Oliver singled home the first run of the frame, and Morello drew a bases loaded walk to make it 3-0. Sophomore Aryana Yee followed with a two-run single, and senior Lauren Boden hit a two-run double.

Occidental made a bid to spoil the shutout by getting the first two hitters on in the bottom of the seventh with singles, but Cockrell was able to bear down and get the final out of the game with a strikeout to leave runners on second and third.

The nightcap saw the Sagehens score five times to take a 6-1 lead in the top of the fifth, but Occidental scored four times in the bottom of the fifth and then twice in the seventh. Alex Battest tied the game with an RBI double and came home for the winning run on a wild pitch.

Lauren Boden had RBI singles in the first and fifth, and sophomore Susanne Boden had an RBI double to start the five-run fifth. Yee added an RBI single, and junior Meagan Tokunaga capped off the frame with a sacrifice fly.

Morello was 3-for-4 with two runs scored in the nightcap, while Susanne Boden was 2-for-3 and Lauren Boden was 2-for-4 with two RBI.

Pomona-Pitzer is back in action tomorrow for a home doubleheader against Whittier, beginning at 12 p.m.
