Orange, Calif. - Freshman goalie Gaby Fukumura (pictured) had eight saves in the first half before allowing a goal as the Pomona-Pitzer Women's Lacrosse team built a 5-1 lead at the break and captured an 11-8 road win over Chapman on Wednesday evening.

Sophomore attacker Sarah Markowitz had four goals and an assist for the Sagehens, who improve to 3-1 on the season (all SCIAC games), while Chapman sees its record fall to 1-3.

Markowitz got Pomona-Pitzer going offensively with two goals in the first three minutes (29:01, 27:02), then fed freshman Hannah Christenson for a goal to make it 3-0 just under seven minutes into the game. Chapman settled in defensively, but senior Jana London and sophomore Aubrey Douglass were able to tack on goals 22 seconds apart to make it 5-0 with 13:52 left in the opening stanza.

It wasn't until just 1:38 remained in the first half when the Panthers were finally able to beat Fukumura as Allie Kontny scored to make it 5-1 heading into the break. Kontny opened the second half with a goal just 46 seconds in for Chapman to close to within 5-2, and Lauren Mah followed with a free position shot at the 28:22 mark to bring the Panthers within 5-3.

However, Fukumura made a save on a free position shot to prevent Chapman from cutting the lead to one, and London and Markowitz quickly followed with goals to push the Pomona-Pitzer advantage back up to 7-3. The teams traded goals the rest of the way, with the Panthers never able to get closer than three.

Fukumura finished with 13 saves, while London had three goals in support of Markowitz's four goal, one-assist performance.

The Sagehens return to action on Saturday when they host Redlands for an 11 a.m. contest.
