Box Score Claremont, Calif. - Junior forward Allie Tao (Alamo, Calif.) scored her third goal of the week to give Pomona-Pitzer a 1-0 lead, but the Sagehens settled for a 1-1 tie at Redlands on Saturday afternoon.
With the tie, the Sagehens move to 3-4-1 overall and 2-3-1 in the SCIAC. Redlands moves to 5-1-2 overall and 4-1-1 in league play.
Tao's goal came in the 61st minute off a pass from junior midfielder Sarah Ach (San Diego, Calif.) and enabled her to continue her torrid play of late after she had two goals and an assist in a 4-1 win over Occidental on Wednesday.
The lead held until less than seven minutes remained, when Kendall Pegan scored on a counter off a long diagonal ball from Savannah Laursen. Pegan was able to bend a shot from the top of the 18-yard box into the upper-right corner, past the dive of Pomona-Pitzer goalie Annie Wedel (Trabuco Canyon, Calif.)
The overtime saw lots of action, as Tao was stopped twice by Redlands goalie Linzey Smith, once in each extra session. The second time, the rebound came to sophomore midfielder Amanda Coba (Woodinville, Wash.), who had her shot blocked along the goal line by a Redlands defender in the 109th minute. Moments later, freshman forward Ying Fry (San Francisco, Calif.) had her shot saved by Smith with 30 seconds left, before the clock finally ran out.
There was drama at the other end of the field in overtime as well, as Wedel had to come off her line to make a save in the first overtime, and left the game with an injury. Freshman Helena Epps (Santa Cruz, Calif.) came on in relief and was called on to make a save and punch away a corner kick to help preserve the 1-1 tie.
Wedel finished with seven saves for the Sagehens, who held a narrow 14-13 edge in shots for the game. Smith finished with six saves for the Bulldogs.
Pomona-Pitzer will be back in action at home on Wednesday for an important home match with La Verne at 4 p.m., completing the first half of the SCIAC round-robin schedule.
