CLAREMONT, CA - On a hot and sunny Saturday afternoon, the #3 Pomona-Pitzer Women's Lacrosse team faced off against the #2 Redlands Bulldogs, contesting for a spot in the championship game. After not one but two overtimes, the PP lady hens earned the upper hand, winning the game and putting themselves in the #2 spot against the #1 CMS Athenas.
The first 15 minutes were neck and neck, with midfielders Jana London and Logan Galansky racking in goals for the Sagehens. However, the Bulldogs retaliated with attackers Aimee Dewan and Megan Prickett contributing to 9 goals and leading the Sagehens by 4 at the end of the first half.
Yet, the Sagehens were not ready to give up just yet and came out with a fervor and determination in the second half. Midfielder Jana London and attacker Kaitlin Jones started the momentum, contributing two goals in the first five minutes of the game. Midfielder and lone senior Hannah "Tiki" T'Kindt also had three lovely assists and one goal, helping the Hens tie up game towards the end of the second half. Yet, it wouldn't have been near the same game without the stellar playing of the Sagehen defense, with freshman goalie Casey Leek saving 11 goals throughout the game and defender Marlene Haggblade keeping Bulldogs' star attacker Christy Smith from scoring. The game ended the best way it could- in double overtime with a great save from Leek and the sudden death shot scored by London.
