CLAREMONT, CA - Singles by Brianna Marcantoni and Alexis Garcia gave P-P an early lead in game two of the Thursday's double-header and almost proved to be enough to beat top ranked Linfield. However, late inning rallies by the Wildcats changed the momentum and gave Linfield a 5-2 win.
Caitlyn Hynes kept the Wildcats at bay with five innings of stellar shut out ball on the mound. P-P did their part on offense. Lauren Boden started off a Sagehen rally in the third with a single down the right field line. Ali Corley followed with a single of her own to set up Marcantoni who drilled an RBI single up the middle. Garcia then singled up the middle to score Corley and put P-P up 2-0.
In the sixth a Linfield homerun put the Wildcats within one run of a tie. With runners on second and third, the Wildcats smashed a two out double just past the diving glove of Emily Buika, giving Linfield a 3-2 lead. A two run home run in the seventh put the Wildcats up 5-2. P-P could not rally in the bottom of the seventh and Linfield pulled out the 5-2 win.
