CLAREMONT, CA - Errors and walks allowed Occidental to rally for seven runs in the fifth and pull game two of Saturday's double-header out of reach. The Tigers took the win 11-7.
P-P struck first with back-to-back singles from Arianna Roach PI '12 and Caitlyn Hynes PO '14. Ali Corley PO '11 walked to load the bases for Carolyn Cross PO '13 who singled home Roach. Alexis Garcia PI '11 then walked with the bases loaded to put the Sagehens up 2-0. In the second Corley doubled to score Hynes. Brianna Marcantoni PI '12 then singled to bring Corley home and give the Sagehens the 4-0 lead. Yet, two errors by P-P in the third allowed the Tigers, to tie the game up 4-4. Roach led the fourth off with a walk, setting the stage for Corley who blasted her fifth homerun of the year to give the Sagehens a 6-4 lead.
Things fell apart for the Sagehens in the fifth as the Tigers rallied for seven runs. P-P rallied in the sixth after Marcantoni was hit by a pitch and Cross singled. Alexis Garcia PI '11 reached on a fielder's choice, allowing Marcantoni to score and putting P-P within four runs of a tie. Yet, the Sagehens could not rally in the seventh and took the 11-7 loss.
