WHITTIER, CA - The Pomona-Pitzer Sagehens opened their season at Whittier College on Saturday. Despite holding an 8-6 halftime lead, the Sagehens fell to the Poets by a final score of 16-11.
The Poets efficient shooting was the difference in the contest, scoring on 10 of 21 shots. In contrast, Pomona-Pitzer scored three goals on 10 shots.
The Sagehen's were led by juniors Emma Molloy, Martha Marich and freshman Logan Galansky. Molloy netted four goals and had one assist. Marich also found the back of the net four times. Galansky kicked off her Sagehen career strong with three goals. Freshmen Jana London and Kaitlin Jones each tallied one assist.
Although this was a tough loss, the team is still very optimistic about the rest of their season. Their first home game is this Wednesday against Widener University at 7pm. Widener is currently 1-0 for the season.
