Five Sagehens In Double-Digits In 67-57 Win Over Caltech

PASADENA, CA. – The No. 25 Pomona-Pitzer Men's Basketball team extended their SCIAC winning streak with a 67-57 win over Caltech on Wednesday night at Braun Gymnasium.

Season Impact: with the win, the Sagehens improve to 18-5 overall and 13-1 in SCIAC play.

Pomona-Pitzer was led by Ty Bergman who had a team-high 12 points while Brendan Mora, Joe Cookson and Peyton Mullarkey all had 11 and Pete Boyle was the fifth Sagehen in double-digits with 10 in the win.

The Sagehens shot 46% from the field and 35.3% from three and outrebounded the Beavers 36-26 with 28 points in the paint to Caltech's 14. The Sagehens also tallied 19 bench points and 15 points off of turnovers.

The Sagehens led the Beavers 16-7 after the first ten minutes of play. The Sagehens opened the scoring with a layup by Mora, but the Beavers quickly responded with a layup by Stavrinides. The Sagehens then took control of the game, going on a 10-2 run to take a 14-4 lead. The Beavers cut the deficit to five points with a three-pointer by McGraw, but the Sagehens closed out the half with a layup by Hayden Moser to take a 36-25 lead into halftime. Bergman and John King lead the way for the Sagehens with six points each, while McGraw has seven points for the Beavers.

The Sagehens held their 10-point lead over Caltech in the early stages of the second half, but Caltech got it under 10 points after a made three with five minutes gone in the second half. Pomona0Pitzer got the lead up to 14 after a made three by Mullarkey and a Cookson layup made it 52-38 until the Beavers got it back to nine points with eight minutes left in the second half. The Sagehen defense stayed strong late against the Beavers to hold on to the lead and the Sagehens coasted to their 13th SCIAC win and stay on top of the SCIAC Standings.
