EAGLE ROCK, Ca. – The Pomona-Pitzer women's track and field team traveled to Occidental to start the 2023 season, narrowly losing the dual 64-59. The Sagehens will be back in action next Saturday when they host the PP Collegiate All-Comers meet.
Tene Ariyo opened the 2023 season with a win in the 100m, running 13.13 seconds. Reia Li took third with a time of 13.46 seconds. In the 100m hurdles, Oluyemisi Bolonduro took first in 17.41 seconds. Nicole Player won the 300m hurdles with a time of 52.83 seconds with Laura Wiederspahn taking second in 54.59 seconds. In the 4x400m relay, Sara Colando, Natalie Sokol-Snyder, Julia Schwartz, and Joya Terdiman took third with a time of 4:42.16. Sara Colando, Thea McAfee, McKayla Proulx, and Kheli Phillips won the 4x800m in 9:58.27. Lilly Bar, Isabel Burger, Julia Schwartz, and Mira Terdiman took second in the 4x1600m relay with a time of 22:39.93. Tene Ariyo took second in the high jump with a mark of 1.45m. Khairat Raji took first in the long jump with a jump of 4.56m and won the triple jump with a 10.23m mark. Sara Anderson took second in the discus with a 30.31m throw. In hammer, Anderson won with a 34.83m throw while Zoey Joshlin took second in 31.58m. Logan Spoonemore won the javelin with a throw of 32.71m. The mixed 1600m relay team of Oluyemisi Bolonduro, Ayodele Cole, Lillie Minskoff, and Joshua Mosley took first with a time of 4:11.42.
"We had a successful day!" said Head Coach Kirk Reynolds. "We learned a lot today that will carry us into the next portion of the season. We shook off the rust, and reminded ourselves of what we need to do to perform at our best. I'm excited to see us compete at home this coming weekend."
The Sagehens also sent a team to the 2023 BU David Hemery Valentine Invitational with Anna MacDonald, Olivia Reichle, Michaela Jones, and Katie Cline setting a new program record in the DMR with a time of 12:10.54.
