Angie Zhou Finishes As Runner-Up In NCAA Singles Tournament

ORLANDO, FL. – Pomona-Pitzer's Angie Zhou finished as the runner-up at the 2022 NCAA Singles National Championship after her 4-6, 5-7 loss against Elle Christensen of Tufts on Sunday afternoon at the USTA National Campus.

Zhou had one of the most dominant singles performances at the NCAA Tournament.  She leaves with a combined record of 69-15 in singles games that included 42-straight until she lost a game in the Quarterfinals. Zhou also became the first Pomona-Pitzer Singles player to reach the finals since Siobhan Finicane in 2008.

Zhou started down against Christensen 2-1 in the first set but went on to win two-straight games to take a 3-2 lead. Christensen fought back and tied it at 4-4 and then came back to win the final two games for the 6-4 set one victory.

Both athletes exchanged wins in the opening games of set two before Zhou took a 5-4 lead with a chance for set point.  Christensen battled back and ended up winning the final three games of the second set to claim the National Championship over Zhou.

Zhou ends the season as the Runner-Up in the NCAA Singles Tournament with her only loss of the spring coming in the Championship game.
