Women's Water Polo

No. 1 Sagehens Fly Past Panthers, 17-10

 CLAREMONT, CA. – The No. 1 Pomona-Pitzer Women's Water Polo team kept their unbeaten run in SCIAC alive with a 17-10 win over SCIAC opponent Chapman on Saturday morning at Haldeman Pool.

Season Impact: with the win, the Sagehens improve to 19-15 overall and 13-0 in SCIAC play,

The Sagehens were led by Namlhun Jachung and Madison Lewis who each netted a hat-trick in the win with three goals. Abigail Wiesenthal, Nadia Paquin, and Lulu Gaither all scored two goals while Allison Sullivan Wu, Lucie Abele, Kaylee Stigar, Alessandra Wong and Alexandra Szczerba each chipped in with one. May Lin got the start against the Panthers and picked up the win with four saves while Zosia Amberger played in the cage for the second half and stopped five shots for the Sagehens.

Pomona-Pitzer had the offense working well in the first half with five goals in the first quarter and six goals in the second. Jachung got the scoring going for the Sagehens followed by back-to-back goals from Wiesenthal and another by Jachung to get out to a 4-0 lead. The Panthers answered with one goal in the first, but Gaither ended the quarter with a goal to put the Sagehens up 5-1.

Chapman netted the first two goals of the second quarter to cut it down to 5-3, but the Sagehens responded with a 5-0 run with goals from Sullivan Wu, Paquin, Lewis and Gaither to break the game open at 10-3. Chapman scored two of the final three goals of the first half, but the Sagehens still held a commanding lead at 11-5.

The Panthers and Sagehens went back and forth exchanging goals throughout the third quarter. Each team was able to net three goals as Jachung, Lewis and Szczerba netted goals for Pomona-Pitzer to keep the lead at six goals at 14-8.

Paquin kept the goals coming for the Sagehens as she opened up the fourth with a goal to make it 15-8 before Chapman netted their first goal of the fourth to make it 15-9. Wong and Stigar ended the scoring day for the Sagehens in the fourth as Pomona-Pitzer continued their unbeaten streak in conference play alive.
