Six Sagehens Named ACWPC All-American; Amberger, Rodiguez Named Player and Coach of Year

CLAREMONT, Calif. — Pomona-Pitzer women's water polo's Mia Amberger was named ACWPC Player of the Year while Alex Rodriguez was named Coach of the Year, the association announced Tuesday. Additionally, a total of six Sagehens were named All-Americans. 
 
Amberger, Brienz Lang and Bella Dova were named First Team All-Americans while Sydney Bowns, Katie Hugar and Ayva Magna earned Second Team honors. 
 
Amberger led Pomona-Pitzer in 2026 with 57 goals on a .432 shooting percentage, also dishing out a team-high 47 assists for a total of 104 points. She also led on the defensive side with a team-best 36 steals to go with eight field blocks and 43 exclusions drawn. 
 
Rodriguez led the Sagehens to their fifth consecutive USA Water Polo Division III National Championship this season, as well as their seventh straight SCIAC Regular Season title. Pomona-Pitzer posted a perfect 12-0 mark in SCIAC play and a 21-16 overall record in 2026. 
 
Lang scored 37 goals on a .446 shooting percentage to go with 22 assists. She added 22 steals and drew 12 exclusions. Lang was named USA Water Polo National Championship Tournament MVP and a First Team All-SCIAC member. 
 
Dova was named SCIAC Defensive Athlete of the Year after recording 174 saves and a .438 save percentage across 531:02 minutes of action. Another All-SCIAC First Team member, Dova added 43 steals and eight assists. 
 
Bowns earned All-SCIAC Second Team honors after scoring 30 goals and posting 14 assists this season. She also totaled 24 steals and four field blocks. Hugar, another All-SCIAC Second Team member, scored 39 goals and had 13 assists to go with 20 steals. Magna was dubbed First Team All-SCIAC after scoring 39 goals on a .506 shooting percentage, while adding 17 steals and a team-high 45 exclusions drawn.
