CLAREMONT, CA. – The No. 3 Pomona-Pitzer Women's Tennis team took down No. 2 Emory 7-2 on Saturday afternoon at the Pauley Tennis Complex.
Season Impact: with the win, the Sagehens improve to 6-1 overall.
The Sagehens fell behind after the doubles competition with just one win at No, 1 doubles as Nina Ye and Maria Lyven came away with an 8-5 win. The Sagehens fell at No. 2 doubles with Marissa Markey and Angie Zhou falling 8-6 and Patria Aziz and Alex Coleman lost 8-6 at No. 3 doubles.
After trailing heading into singles, the Sagehens dominated the singles portion of the contest winning all six of the individual matches. The Sagehens started out with a win at No. 2 with Ye getting her second win of the day with a 6-2, 6-1 win followed by Janie Marcus with a win at No. 5 singles 6-3, 6-2.
Zhou came back to get a win at No. 3 singles after a tough battle in the first set for a 7-5 win and a 6-1 win in set two to put the Sagehens up 4-2 over Emory. The Sagehens went on to clinch at No. 6 singles with Georgia Ryan winning a three-set battle. Ryan fell in set one 6-1 but rallied to win sets two and three by the score of 6-2 to give the Sagehens the win.
Pomona-Pitzer finished with wins at No. 4 and No. 1 singles. Markey got a three-set win after falling in set one 6-2, came back for a 6-2 win in set two and a 6-3 win at set three. Lyven ended the day for the Sagehens with a close 7-6 win and then capped off the upset with a 6-3 win to give the Sagehens the win over the Eagles.
