Box Score REDLANDS, CA. – The Pomona-Pitzer Men's Basketball team moved into first place in the SCIAC after their 81-72 win over SCIAC opponent Redlands on Saturday night at Currier Gym.
Season Impact: With the win, the Sagehens improve to 12-3 overall and 7-1 in conference play and now move into sole possession of first place.
The Sagehens were led by Brendan Mora who finished with a game-high 20 points and 14 rebounds in the win. Pete Boyle notched a career-high 17 points while Joe Cookson and Johnny King each chipped in with 11.
The Sagehens finished with a very nice night shooting from the floor at 52.7% and hit on 8 of their 18 three attempts for 44.4% from beyond the arc. The Sagehens more than doubled the rebounds of Redlands with 44 to their 20 and dominated the paint with 38 points.
Pomona-Pitzer got out to an early lead, but Redland stayed close in the first 10 minutes of the first half. The Sagehens stayed a few points ahead of Redlands early on as they led 16-15 with just under 10 minutes left in the first half, but the Sagehens started to build a lead as they took a 24-18 lead after a Mora layup with 7:34 left to go before halftime. Redlands cut the lead back to one point at 29-28 with 4:30 left in the first half but the Sagehens closed out the first half on a 10-4 run to take a 39-32 lead at halftime.
The Sagehens continued to grow their lead in the second half as they got it to 10 points at 49-39 with 16:14 left in the game. The Sagehens went on to take their largest lead of the game at 55-42 with just over 15 minutes to play but the Bulldogs came all the way back and cut it down to five points at 57-52 with 12:10 to go.
The Sagehens survived the comeback attempt from the Bulldogs and kept Redlands out of striking distance for the remainder of the game as they pushed their winning streak to seven games and moved into first place in the SCIAC.
