Box Score THOUSAND OAKS, CA. – The Pomona-Pitzer Men's Basketball team went on the road and came away with a big 87-72 win over SCIAC opponent Cal Lutheran on Monday night at Gilbert Arena.
Season Impact: With the win, the Sagehens have now won four in a row and move to 9-3 overall and 4-1 in SCIAC play.
The Sagehens were led by the duo of Matthew Eberle and Brendan Mora who each went for 20 points and eight rebounds in the win. Pete Boyle had 12 points and went 3-4 from three while Joe Cookson had 12 points and Ty Bergman came off the bench with 10.
Pomona-Pitzer had an incredible shooting night against the Kingsmen as they hit on 52.6% of their shots from the field and 66.7% from beyond the arc. The Sagehens also dominated the boards as they outrebounded Cal Lutheran 36-23.
After Cal Lutheran made the first bucket of the night, the Sagehens took over the lead and held it for the majority for the first half. Bergman got the lead up to 17-9 with 14:42 left in the first half after a three-pointer to give the Sagehens an eight-point cushion early on, but the Kingsmen kept it close throughout the first half and eventually took over the lead on the last possession of the half to take a 32-31 lead heading into the locker room.
The Sagehens took over in the second half as they outscored the Kingsmen 56-40 in the final 20 minutes. Cal Lutheran kept it close early on as the Sagehens held just a one-point lead at 47-46 with 13 minutes left to play, but the Sagehens sparked a run and widened the gap to 67-54 after a Peyton Mularkey three with just under seven minutes to play.
The Sagehens continued to grow their lead late in the game and Eberle hit a statement three at the end to give the Sagehens their largest lead of the night at 19 points with an 85-66 advantage as their big second half propelled them to the road victory.
