Box Score CLAREMONT, CA. – The Pomona-Pitzer Football team opened up SCIAC play with a 56-3 win over conference opponent Whittier on Saturday night at Merritt Field.
With the win, the Sagehens improve to 3-2 overall and 1-0 in SCIAC play.
The Sagehens were led by Evan Flitz who threw for 341 yards with one touchdown and then ran for 46 yards with two touchdowns on the ground. Kenric Jameison tallied a career-high three touchdowns in the win while Win hunter led the receivers with 112 yards and a score.
Nick Pacult and Thomas McConnell led the defense with five tackles each while Nate Barewin came away with an interception and sacks by David Gorman, Nicholas DelBiaggio, Mark Carling, Sathya Siddapureddy and Graham Olson
The Sagehens dominated form start to finish against the Poets as they had 565 yards of total offense with 399 yards of net passing and 166 yards of net rushing.
The Poets actually got on the board first after an interception on the Sagehens' opening drive led to a 41-yard field goal to take a 3-0 lead. That was all the lead that the Poets would enjoy as the Sagehens responded with a seven play 75-yard drive capped off by a Jameison touchdown to take a 7-3 lead.
The Sagehens would score two more times in the first quarter as Flitz punched in two rushing scores to give the Sagehens a 21-3 lead heading into the second quarter.
Pomona-Pitzer outscored Whittier 14-0 in the second as they stated off the quarter with a one-yard run by Jameison for his second score of the night and then he got his third with two minutes left in the half off of another one-yard run to take a 35-3 lead into halftime.
Both teams went scoreless in the third, but the Sagehens outscored the Poets 21-0 in the fourth. Hunter took a bubble screen 55 yards for a big touchdown reception to push the lead to 42-3 while Quinten Wimmer caught a 25-yard strike from Jackson Diaz to extend the lead to 49-3 with 6:26 left in the game.
The Sagehens capped off the big night with a big run from James Byrne who juked out the Whittier defense for the 22-yard run to end the night in a big way for the Sagehens in the 56-3 victory.
