ORANGE, CA. – The Pomona-Pitzer Football team fell to Chapman 22-14 on Saturday night at Ernie Chapman Stadium for their fourth consecutive loss of the season.
Season Impact: With the loss, the Sagehens fall to 3-5 overall and 2-4 in SCIAC play.
Nick Kim got the start at quarterback going 17-25 for 165 yards and a touchdown while
Luke Levitt went 4-11 for 48 yards and two interceptions. Levitt also led the rushing attack with 28 yards off of 7 carries with a score while
Jackson Walker reached over 100 yards receiving with 114 and a touchdown off of five catches.
The defense was led by
Jake Sugawara and
Gus Burns who both tallied eight tackles in the game. The Sagehens failed to register a sack or any turnovers against the Panthers, but
Samuel Wyatt and
Andy Butler came away with tackles for a loss.
Chapman got the lead first in the game after they completed a seven-play, 42-yard drive that started off of a turnover by the Sagehens. The Panthers jumped ahead 6-0 to end the first and added three more in the beginning of the second quarter to take a 9-0 lead.
The Sagehens came back with their first score of the game off of a 36-yard pass to Walker to cut the lead down to two points at 9-7, but the Panthers chewed over eight minutes off of the half with a 14-play drive ending with an eight-yard touchdown pass to take a 16-7 lead into halftime.
Pomona-Pitzer got the lead back to within two after Levitt punched in a one-yard run to make it 16-14 at the end of the third while Chapman added on two field goals in the fourth to push the lead to 22-14.
The Sagehens had the ball at the end of the game with a chance to send it to overtime but were called on a pass interference that nullified a touchdown and then ultimately turned the ball over on downs as they just fell short of the comeback win against Chapman.
