CLAREMONT, CA. – The Pomona-Pitzer Football team snapped their four-game losing streak with a 28-18 win over Cal Lutheran on Senior Night.
Season Impact: with the win, the Sagehens improved to 4-5 overall and 3-4 in SCIAC play.
The Sagehens were led by
Nick Kim who went 22-32 for 233 yards and one touchdown while
Luke Levitt went a perfect 5-5 with two touchdowns.
Jack Susank led the rushing attack with 36 yards on the ground while
Jackson Walker caught 10 balls for 156 yards and two scores on the day.
The defense stepped up big for the Sagehens as
Trevor Carson led the defense with eight tackles and a pick-six for 32 yards.
Leo Ryals also tallied eight tackles while Ryals and
Elliott Graziano earned half a sack each.
The Sagehens got their offense going in the second quarter and outscored the Kingsmen 21-0 in the first half. Pomona-Pitzer struck first off of a two-yard pass to Walker to take a 7-0 lead and then Walker scored his second touchdown with 1:13 left in the first half from 28 yards out to make it 14-0. The Sagehens added one more score just before halftime as Carson picked off the Kingsmen QB for a 32-yard touchdown to take a 21-0 lead into halftime.
The Sagehens came out of halftime and took their largest lead of the game after a
Jack Sobota one-yard touchdown pass from Levitt to go up 28-0 before Cal Lutheran started to ship away at the Sagehens' lead.
The Kingsmen got their first score of the night on a four-yard run in the third quarter and then early in the fourth with another touchdown run to make it 28-12. Cal Lutheran then scored their third-straight touchdown on a 38-yard pass to cut the lead down to 10, but the Sagehens were able to hold off the late surge to hold on to the senior night win at home.
