ROME, GA. – The Pomona-Pitzer Women's Tennis team had two individuals and a doubles team compete at the ITA Cup hosted by Berry College.
Sagehen singles athlete, Nina Ye, reached the Semifinals of the singles competition before she fell to Emory's Eliza McPherron. Ye started off the competition with a 7-5, 6-3 win over UT Dallas athlete Suzuka Nishino and then upset No. 3 ranked Dakota Fordham of NYU, 6-3, 3-6, 6-1 before falling in the semifinal round to McPherron by the scores of 6-2, 3-6, 6-3.
Angie Zhou also competed in the singles competition and earned a win in the first round as she defeated sylwia Mikos 6-3, 6-2 before falling in the quarterfinals to Carol Plank of NYU, 5-7 ,6-3, 7-5.
The Sagehens also had the doubles team of Zhou and Marissa Markey compete in the doubles section of the ITA Cup. Zhou and Markey came away with a win in round one as they defeated the team of Beshentseva and Vazquez from Kenyon, 6-4, 6-1. Zhou and Markey would then go on to fall in the second round as they were defeated by the team of Guo and Mikos from Chicago, 6-1, 6-3.
After the fall season, the Sagehens will have three All-American players with Nina Ye earning All-American honors for winning the Fall Regional ITA Singles Tournament and the doubles team of Angie Zhou and Marissa Markey for winning the Fall Regional ITA Doubles Tournament.
