Dogra Clinches Win For Sagehens Over Colorado State

CLAREMONT, CA. – The No. 5 Pomona-Pitzer Women's Tennis team took down Division I opponent Colorado State 4-3 on Sunday afternoon at the Pauley Tennis Complex. With the win, the Sagehens move to 4-2 overall on the year.

The Sagehens won the point for doubles play using the Division I format for today's match.  Pomona-Pitzer fell at the No. 1 doubles match as Janie Marcus and Georgia Ryan fell 8-2, but the Sagehens came back with a win at No. 2 as Maria Lyven and Jay Kim edged out a hard-fought 7-6 (5) win.  The Rams forfeited the No. 3 spot giving the Sagehens the doubles point.

The singles competition came down to the wire. The Rams took 1, 2 and 3 singles' matches over the Sagehens, but Pomona-Pitzer battled back with wins at 4, 5 and 6 to get the win. The Rams forfeited at No. 6 giving the Sagehens a win and Jay Kim earned a win in her singles' match 6-2, 6-4.

The match all came down to Melisha Dogra at No. 4 playing in her first match of the season. Dogra ended up winning the first game 6-3 but fell in game two 0-6.  Dogra took her opponent to a tie breaker in game three and came away with a huge win in the tie breaker 7-6 (5) to clinch the match for the Sagehens over Colorado State.

The Sagehens will next host Army West Point on Monday, March 9th at 5:00 p.m.
