CLAREMONT, CA. – The Pomona-Pitzer Women's Tennis team participated in the fall Hen/Athena Invitational on Friday and Saturday afternoon.
The Sagehens took part in doubles competition on Friday afternoon against Concordia, Westmont and CMS. In round one against Concordia the Sagehens dropped two of the three matches as Yurie Heard and Jay Kim fell to Ghazal Pakbaten and Rebekah Anderson 8-2, Jacinta Chen and Olivia Mendoza fell to Taylor Lau and Lisa Suzuki 8-2 and the Sagehens came away with a win as Melisha Doura and Janie Marcus defeated Haley Diefenbach and Kjersti Strandness 8-3.
The Sagehens then dropped two of the three matches against CMS as Maria Lyven and Georgia Ryan fell to Sarah Bahsoun and Nicole Tan 8-1, Jacinta Chen and Rebecca Salaway fell to Cat Allen and Justin Leong 8-1 and Jay Kim and Janie Marcus defeated Anastasia Bryan-Ajania and Devon Wolfe 8-4.
Pomona-Pitzer ended the day wining two of the three doubles matches against Westmont as Maria Lyven and Yurie Heard fell to Cade Pienson and Erin Wilson 8-6 but Rebecca Salaway and Georgia Ryan defeated Emily Peterson and Sidney Lowey 8-2 and Melisha Doura and Patria Aziz defeated Rachal Jackson and Christine Hemry 8-6.
The Sagehens played singles matches in day two of the Hen/Athena Invitational against Westmont and CMS.
The Sagehens fell in all five matches against CMS. Maria Lyven fell to Justine Leong 6-4, 6-3. Jacinta Chen fell to Crystal Juan 7-6 (4), 6-4, Melisha Doura fell to Ana Bryan-Ajania 6-0, 6-0, Patria Aziz fell to Anna Kern 6-2, 6-3 and Olivia Mendoza fell to Georgia Tuckerman 6-3, 6-1.
Pomona-Pitzer ended day two taking three of the four singles matches against Westmont. Janie Marcus won in three sets by the scores of 1-6, 7-6, 10-8, Georgia Ryan won after her opponent was retired after 6-1, 4-5. Rebecca Salaway fell 6-4, 6-0 and Jay Kim ended the day with a 3-6, 6-3, 10-6 win.
