Men's Basketball: Elan's Late Three Lifts Sagehens Over Stags In Sixth Street Rivalry

CLAREMONT, CA. – Senior Micah Elan drilled a game-ending three-pointer with seconds remaining to lift the Sagehens up over CMS 51-48 in the Sixth Street Rivalry on Wednesday night.

Season Impact: With the win, the Sagehens improve to 4-2 overall and open up 1-0 in SCIAC play.

The Sagehens were led by Elan who had a game-high 21 points in the win including the game-winning shot. No other Sagehens was in double-digits for scoring and the Sagehens ended the game with 0 bench points.

A tough night shooting for both teams in the Sixth Street Rivalry with under 100 points scored between the two teams with the Sagehens shooting just 29.8% from the floor and the Stags at 34%.  Neither team successful from three but both teams had 18 points inside the paint and the Sagehens held a slight rebounding advantage at 40-38.

A rough start to the game for both teams on offense as neither team could get anything going in the first half. The Stags had the early advantage as they jumped out to a 9-2 lead and eventually stretched their lead to 14-4 midway through the first half. Pomona-Pitzer struggled mightily on offense as they went into halftime shooting just 22% from the floor and 7% from three.  CMS and Pomona-Pitzer were both held to their lowest scoring halves of the seasons, but the Stags led 20-16.   

Pomona-Pitzer shot much better in the second half with 38% from the floor and 30% from three. CMS held on to the lead for the entire game up until 7:36 left to go in the second half when senior Jack Boyle hit a big three to tie the game at 37-37.  The game was tight late but the Sagehens had another rbig three by senior Adam Rees with 1:06 left to play to put the Sagehens up 48-45.

CMS came back and tied the game late with a three-pointer by Miles President but Elan came back on the next possession with a dagger from deep to lift the Sagehens over the Stags.
