Box Score CLAREMONT, CA. – The Pomona-Pitzer Football team fell to Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) rival CMS 20-17 in the Sixth Street Rivalry on Saturday afternoon at Zinda Field.
Season Impact: with the loss, the Sagehens end the season at 6-4 overall.
The Sagehens were led by senior Karter Odermann who went 12-36 passing for 121 yards. Odermann also led the rushing attack with 61 yards on 145 carries while junior Win Hunter led the recievers with 79 yards on six catches. The Sagehens defense had five payers with a shared high of 10 tackles as Levon Lester, Nick Pacult, Vaishnav Siddapureddy, Adam Webber and Kyle Davis each ended the game with 10 tackles.
Pomona-Pitzer had a tough time moving the chains on third down against the CMS defense as they were just 1-10 converting on third downs. CMS also dominated time of possession with just over 40 minutes while the Sagehens had the ball for under 20 minutes. CMS controlled the game on the ground with 220 rushing yards out of their total 322 yards on the day.
CMS got on the board first as they marched down the field and took 9:37 to do so with a 16-play 59-yard drive to go up 7-0 in the first quarter. The Sagehens responded with a big drive of their own capped off by a Dominick Norris three-yard score to even the score at 7-7.
The Stags came back with a 28-yard field goal in the second quarter but the Sagehens went on to take the lead after an Evan Flitz 16-yard run to take a 14-10 lead with 4:40 left in the half.
The Sagehens' lead was short lived as the Stags ended the half with a nine-yard touchdown run to take a 17-14 lead heading into halftime.
Not much scoring in the second half as a pair of field goals in the third quarter was all the points score for the remainder of the contest. The Sagehens had life late in the game after Webber came up with a big interception in the endzone to give the Sagehens the ball with a chance to win with 3:18 left to go in the game.
The big moment of the game came down to the flag of an official as the Sagehens connected for a huge touchdown pass from Odermann to Hunter but the Sagehens were flagged for offensive pass interference as all hopes of a comeback came crashing down with the flag.
The Sagehens had one last chance to score with just over a minute left and no timeouts but the Stags defense stayed strong and handed the Sagehens a loss in the Sixth Street Rivalry.
