Men's Basketball: Sagehens Take the Kings Ransom At Cal Lutheran

THOUSAND OAKS, CA. – The Pomona-Pitzer Men's Basketball continues to roll after throttling Cal Lutheran University 76 to 51 on Monday, January 5 at Gilbert Arenas. The Sagehens dominated on both ends of the floor, limiting the Kingsmen to 33.3% from the field while shooting an efficient 50.0%. Daniel Rosenbaum led the team with 25 points and grabbed seven rebounds while Adam Rees had a highly efficient night, shooting 5-for-6 from the field for 11 points and snatching a team-high four steals. Alex Preston dominated the paint, crushing four blocks and adding 11 points.

Season Impact: The Sagehens improve to a 12-1 record overall and 4-0 in the SCIAC. This is the first time the team has opened up the SCIAC season 4-0 since the 2008-09 season.

With the score tied at seven apiece with 14:09 remaining in the opening half, the Sagehens tried to pull away after Rosenbaum and Pavle Rohalj scored back-to-back layups. Ahead 15-13, the Sagehens started to pull away when Elan hit a three-pointer off a pass from Corbin Koch. After a Kingsmen turnover, Preston followed with his only triple of the night off a dish from Rees, putting the Sagehens ahead 21-13. Elan put the Sagehens up by 10 after another three-pointer thanks to an assist from Koch to make it 24-14. The Sagehens led 34-28 at halftime.

Pomona-Pitzer's offense opened the second half hot as Rosenbaum converted a layup off a dish from Koch and Rees followed with a three to make it 39-28. After a layup from Kingsmen's Tyler Brabant, the Sagehens followed with two straight layups to extend the lead 43-30. Cal Lutheran tried to come back with an and-one triple by Kyle Ferreira, but the Sagehens quickly silenced their momentum after Preston elevated for a dunk off a pass by Elan. The dunk sparked a 7-0 run as the Sagehens led 50-34 with 13:11 left in the game. The Kingsmen tried to rally back, but the Sagehens' offense protected the lead. With 2:35 left in the game and the Sagehens up 71-51, Rosenbaum sealed the game with a three-pointer off a pass by Winston Nelson.

Up Next: The Sagehens will travel again on Wednesday, January 9 when they head to Whittier College to face the Poets at 7:00 p.m.
