CLAREMONT, CA. – The Pomona-Pitzer Women's Water Polo team continued their dominance in the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) with a 14-4 win over conference foe Whittier College on Saturday morning at Haldeman Pool.
Season Impact: with the win, the Sagehens improve to 13-10 overall and remain perfect at 7-0 in conference play.
The Sagehens were led by Jocelyn Castro who scored a game-high four goals while Keahea Kahaulelio also had a hat-trick with three goals in the win.
The Sagehens came out and made a statement early on against the Poets as they shutout Whittier in the first quarter while goals from Morgan McCracken and two from Castro allowed the Sagehens to end the first period with a 3-0 lead.
Pomona-Pitzer extended its lead to 4-0 early on the second but the Poets finally got on the board with a goal with 5:40 left in the half to cut the lead down to 4-1. The Sagehens ended the half with two more goals from Kahaulelio and Janelle Lewis to take a 6-1 lead heading into halftime.
Whtitier had their best period of the afternoon with two goals in the third but the Sagehens countered with three goals for the third-straight period to take a 9-3 lead heading into the fourth.
The Sagehens ended the game with a statement on offense as they piled on the goals in the fourth as they netted five to close out the game from Kahea Kahaulelio, Castro, Anna Yu and Nohea Kahaulelio to secure the season sweep over the Poets.
