Men's Track and Field: No. 22 Sagehens Win Eight Events at Occidental

LOS ANGELES, CA — Christopher (Cal) Neikirk won three events, Reggie Reed took first in the shot put and discus, and the No. 22 Pomona-Pitzer Men's Track and Field team split at the second SCIAC Multi-Dual.

Neikirk had an incredible meet, finishing with three individual wins. The sophomore won the 110 meter hurdles with a time of 14.92, the 400 meter hurdles at 54.93, and the triple jump with a mark of 44-04.25. He also took second in the high jump with a final height of 6-03.50.

Neikirk was named SCIAC Athlete of the Week on Monday for the second time this season. 

Reggie Reed was dominant in the field events, scoring a pair of wins for the Sagehens. In the shot put the senior finished with a final throw of 44-06.25. He won the discus with a distance of 127-11. He also turned in a fifth place finish in the hammer throw with a mark of 83-04. 

Pomona-Pitzer took the top two spots in the 5000 meter. Andy Reischling won the event with a time of 15:02.78 and Daniel Hill finished second at 15:22.82.

Calvin Aylward won the javelin with a throw of 197-10 and Nathan Gallatin took second in the event with a distance of 144-05.

In the steeplechase, Julian DeGroot-Lutzner took first, winning with a time of 9:32.91. Danny Rosen took second in the event at 9:36.33.

Paul Messana took second in the 400 meter dash in an extremely close finish. The senior finshed with a time of 48.63, three one hundredths of a second behind the winner. His finish ranks as the eighth best time in program history. 

Nick Vucovich turned in a second place finish in the 800 meter with a time of 1:55.35.

The Sagehens took three of the top-five spots in the 1500 meter. Peter Davis took third (4:01.76), Kellen Browning finished fourth (4:02.82), and Nicholas Borowsky came in fifth (4:02.82).

Pomona-Pitzer took third in both of the day's relay events. In the 4x100, Neil Chan, Neikirk, Ryan Abele, and Faraaz Rashidi finished with a time of 42.98. In the 4x400, Neikirk, Vucovich, Lucas White Moon, and Messana crossed the line at 3:21.28.

White Moon took fourth in the triple jump with a mark of 42-11.75. He also tied for fifth in the long jump with a leap of 20-10.50.

Next Meet: The Sagehens next host the Pomona-Pitzer invitational on Saturday, April 8 beginning at 10 a.m.
