SANTA BARBARA, CA — The No. 22 Pomona-Pitzer Men's Track and Field team had an impressive outing in Santa Barbara.
The Sagehens scored a win in the 4x800 meter relay. The team of Kellen Browning, Gabe Elliott, Eric Gofen, and Julian DeGroot-Lutzner finished with a time of 8:09.10.
Nick Vucovich and DeGroot-Lutzner went one-two in the 800 meter. Vucovich won the event with a time of 1:56.19, and DeGroot-Lutzer finished second with a time of 1:57.67. Browning came in fourth with a time of 1:57.99. Danny Rosen and Elliot tied for fifth at 1:58.70. Niko Tutland finished in tenth at 2:00.23.
Christopher Neikirk had a great day individually. The sophomore won the 400 meter hurdles with a time of 54.52, and he just barley missed out on another win in the 110 meter hurdles. Neikirk finished second with a time of 14.81, one one hundredths of a second behind the winner. He also went on to finish third in the high jump with a height of 1.95 meters.
Andy Reischling won the 5000 meter with a time of 15:15.94. Colin Mulligan took third with a time of 15:17.42 and Charlie Watson finished next in fourth place with a time of 15:24.76. Nathan Stringham added another top-10 Sagehen finish in the event, taking seventh with a time of 15:51.89.
Reggie Reed had a successful day in the field events. The senior took second in the shot put with a throw of 14.08 meters and eighth in the discus with a distance of 38.91 meters.
Calvin Aylward took second in the javelin with a throw of 61.45 meters.
In the jumps, Ethan Hardacre finished second in the long jump with a leap of 6.55 meters. He took second again in the triple jump with a distance of 13.10 meters. James Findlay finished fourth in the triple jump at 12.11 meters, and Neel Karody took fifth at 12.07 meters.
Pomona-Pitzer had a strong showing in the 4x100 meter relay. Neil Chan, Neikirk, Ryan Abele, and Faraaz Rashidi finished second with a time of 43.13.
Parker Head turned in a second place finish for Pomona-Pitzer in the 3000 meter steeplechase. The senior finished with a time of 10:00.52.
The Sagehens accounted for six of the top-10 spots in the 1500 meter. Paul Messana led the pack, finishing second with a time of 3:56.16, just five one hundredths of a second behind his lifetime best time in the event. Teammate Peter Davis followed right behind with a third place finish at 3:58.85.
Reischling led the next group of Sagehens, finishing fifth at 3:59.70. Rosen took sixth (4:00.00), Mulligan finished seventh (4:00.33), and Carter Stripp came in tenth (4:04.46).
In the 4x400 meter relay, the Sagehens took third with Vucovich, Nicholas Borowsky, Davis, and Messana finishing with a time of 3:26.86.
Rashidi took fourth in the 100 meter dash with a time of 11.32. Abele finished eighth in the the event with a time of 11.47. The pair had a solid showing in the 200 meter dash with Abele taking sixth at 22.94, and Rashidi finishing tenth with a time of 23.38.
Next Meet: The Sagehens return to SCIAC action when they compete in their second SCIAC Multi-Dual Meet on Saturday, April 1 at Occidental beginning at 10 a.m.
