Men's Basketball: Koch And Rosenbaum Drop 23 Points Each As Sagehens Beat La Sierra, 85-75

Box Score

RIVERSIDE, CA. – The Pomona-Pitzer Men's Basketball team defeated non-conference opponent La Sierra 85-75 on Saturday evening.

Season impact: With the win, the Sagehens improve to 2-8 overall and snap a three-game skid with the win over the Eagles.

The Sagehens were led by juniors Corbin Koch and Daniel Rosenbaum who each notched season-high with 23 points apiece. Sophomore Micah Elan finished with double-digit scoring with 10 points and five rebounds while sophomore Adam Rees chipped in with nine points and seven rebounds in the win.

Both teams came out and traded baskets early on in the first half with neither team able to hold a significant lead. The Sagehens jumped out in front early on and held the lead for the majority of the first half. Midway through the first, the Sagehens held their largest lead of the first half at four points after a James Kelbert jumper extended the lead to 19-15.

Pomona-Pitzer's offense went cold late in the first as they only scored six points in the final seven minutes of the half, which allowed La Sierra to spark a late run and grab a 37-34 lead heading into the half.

The Eagles came out and immediately took their largest lead of the game at 38-34 after a made free-throw on their first possession of the second half. The Sagehens then battled back as the two teams traded the lead back-and-forth for the next few minutes of the second half.

Pomona-Pitzer then sparked a 9-0 run capped off by a Rosenbaum and-one that gave the Sagehens control of the game with a 57-50 lead with 9:01 left to go.

La Sierra clawed back into the game late after a made three-pointer brought the Sagehen lead down to five points at 70-65 with just under four minutes to play, but the Sagehens held off the attempted comeback with solid shooting from the free-throw line and came out with the road win.

Up Next: The Sagehens will break for the holidays before they return to host non-conference opponent Tufts on Thursday, December 28th at 7:00 p.m.
