Box Score WHITTIER, CA. – The Pomona-Pitzer Men's Basketball team extended their winning streak to four-straight games with a 83-63 win over Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) opponent Whittier on Thursday night.
Season Impact: With the win, the Sagehens have now won eight of their last nine games and improve to 10-6 overall and 6-1 in conference play. Whittier now drops to 8-8 and 3-5 in the SCIAC this season.
The Sagehens were led by sophomore Corbin Koch who had a game-high 21 points and went 13-14 from the free-throw line. Sophomore Daniel Rosenbaum tallied 16 points, freshman Micah Elan contributed 12 and freshman James Kelbert chipped in with a career-high 16 points off of the bench.
The Poets were led by Louis Kurihara who had a team-high 15 points. Nick Potthoff tallied 12 points and Chris Kapano chipped in with 10 points in the loss.
The two teams played a tightly contested first half as both teams went back and forth in the first ten minutes of the game. The Sagehens took the lead at 25-24 after a pair of made free throws by Koch and Pomona-Pitzer maintained their lead for the rest of the half and went into the locker room with a 36-28 advantage.
The second half was all Sagehens as they came out of the locker room and went on a 15-6 run to open up a 51-36 lead with 14:12 to go.
The Sagehens took their largest lead of the night as they led by 21 points after a Kelbert and-one extended the lead to 70-49 with just under six minutes remaining.
Pomona-Pitzer was able to hang out and hold off the Poets as they claimed their fourth win in a row.
