CLAREMONT, Calif. – The Pomona-Pitzer women's water polo team defeated Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference opponent Caltech 14-4 on Wednesday afternoon at Haldeman Pool.
The Sagehens were led by freshman Kyla Pickell who tallied a hat-trick with a game-high three goals for Pomona-Pitzer.
The Sagehens jumped out to an early 4-0 lead to start the game as Pickell, freshman Nohea Kahaulelio, freshman Natalie Hill and junior Hope Grant all found the back of the net in the first quarter.
Pomona-Pitzer shut out the Beavers in the first half and extended their lead to 8-0 as freshman Anna Yu, freshman Janelle Lewis, freshman Olivia Scola and freshman Maddie Kauahi all scored their first goals of the night in the second quarter.
Caltech got on the scoreboard with two goals in the third quarter but Yu and Lewis scored their second goals of the game and Kahea Kahaulelio and Pickell each notched two goals in the quarter as the Sagehens held a 14-2 lead heading into the fourth.
Pomona-Pitzer took its foot off of the gas in the last quarter of play and the Beavers tacked on two more goals to their total but the Sagehens claimed their fourth conference win of the season.
The Sagehens will next hit the pool as they travel to SCIAC opponent La Verne on Saturday, April 9th at 11:00 a.m. The Sagehens will also travel to Long Beach State later that night to play the 49ers at 7:00 p.m.
