REDLANDS, Calif. – The Pomona-Pitzer women's water polo team defeated Chapman 8-6 to take third place in the SCIAC Championships on Sunday afternoon at the Thompson Aquatics Center in Redlands, California.

The Sagehens were led by sophomore Jocelyn Castro as she tallied a team-high two goals in the win.

Pomona-Pitzer jumped out to a 2-0 lead as senior Megan Snow and freshman Natalie Hill each scored early in the first quarter.

The Panthers responded on their next possession with their first goal of the game to cut the Pomona-Pitzer lead down to 2-1 at the end of the first quarter.

Pomona-Pitzer scored two-straight goals to start the second as Castro scored her first goal of the game and sophomore Morgan McCracken found the back of the net to give the Sagehens a 4-1 lead with 6:30 left in the half.

Chapman responded with two goals of their own to end the half to cut the Sagehens lead down to 4-3 going into halftime.

The Sagehens came out in the second half and scored three goals in a row by freshman Anna Yu, junior Christina Williamson and Castro to take a 7-3 lead over the Panthers to end the third quarter.

Chapman tried to climb back into the game as they outscored the Sagehens 3-1 in the fourth quarter but the Pomona-Pitzer defense held off the Panthers as they claimed third place in the SCIAC Championships.

The Sagehens end their season in third place in the SCIAC and end the year with a 14-16 overall record and 9-2 in conference play.
