REDLANDS, Calif. – The Pomona-Pitzer women's water polo team fell in the Semifinals of the SCIAC Championship to La Verne by the score of 10-9 at the Thompson Aquatics Center in Redlands, California.

The Sagehens were led by junior Christina Williamson who tallied a hat-trick with a game-high three goals in the loss.

Pomona-Pitzer got on the board first as Williamson scored her first goal of the game early in the first quarter to give the Sagehens a 1-0 lead.

The Leopards came back to tie the game at 1-1 until sophomore Morgan McCracken found the back of the net with 1:31 remaining to give Pomona-Pitzer a 2-1 lead at the end of the first quarter.

Pomona-Pitzer and La Verne went back and forth with goals as freshman Samantha Martinez and Williamson each scored goals in the second quarter as the Sagehens held a 4-3 lead at the half.

The Leopards came out of halftime and went on a scoring streak as they scored four-straight goals in the third quarter to take a 7-4 lead with 3:14 left in the quarter.

The Sagehens responded with four goals of their own late in the third quarter by freshman Anna Yu, senior Megan Snow and McCracken to tie the game up at 7-7 and Williamson tipped in a goal with five seconds left to give the Sagehens an 8-7 lead heading into the fourth.

La Verne tied the game at 8-8 just one minute into the final quarter and Snow scored her second goal of the game to take a 9-8 lead with 5:03 remaining.

The Leopards responded just over a minute later with a goal of their own and scored the go-ahead goal with 1:46 left to go in the fourth quarter to hold a 10-9 lead late in the game.

The Sagehens desperately tried to tie the game in their final possession and hit the post twice in the final two minutes of the game but ultimately could not come back against the Leopards.

Pomona-Pitzer will play its final match of the year in a match for third place tomorrow afternoon against Chapman.
