CLAREMONT, Calif. -- The Pomona-Pitzer women's water polo team finished up the Convergence Tournament with a 1-3 record after splitting day two with a 10-5 win against Occidental and a 12-4 loss to UC San Diego.
The Sagehens started out with a 3-0 lead over Occidental to start the day as freshman Natalie Hill, junior Christina Williamson and freshman Kyla Pickell each scored one goal.
Pomona-Pitzer tallied three more goals in the second as freshman Anna Yu found her first goal of the day and Williamson and Pickell added their second to take a 6-1 lead going into halftime.
The Tigers outscored Pomona-Pitzer in the third quarter 3-2 with sophomore Jocelyn Castro getting her first goal of the match and Pickell completed a hat-trick with her third goal of the game as Pomona-Pitzer led 8-4 heading into the fourth.
The Sagehens were able to hold off the Tigers in the fourth as Yu notched her second goal of the game and Williamson scored another for her first hat-trick of the year as Pomona-Pitzer won its first game of the Convergence Tournament.
Pomona-Pitzer faced off against UC San Diego in the final game of the tournament.
The Sagehens started out the game with two goals early in the first quarter from Yu and freshman Kahea Kahaulelio to take a 2-1 lead over the Tritons. UCSD scored two more late in the quarter and held a 3-2 lead over the Sagehens after the first.
The Pomona-Pitzer offense came to a halt in the second as they couldn't find any offense and went into halftime with a 6-2 deficit.
Senior Hope Grant scored one goal in the third and another in the fourth as that was the only offense the Sagehens could find in the second half against UCSD. The Tritons went on to score three goals in the third and three in the fourth to take the final game of the Convergence Tournament.
The Sagehens next hit the pool as they travel to Occidental on Thursday, March 10th at 4:00 p.m.
