Men's Basketball: Farone-Collins Drops Career-High 36 As Sagehens Beat Leopards 79-63

CLAREMONT, Calif. – Senior Gibson Farone-Collins set a new career-high with 36 points as the Pomona-Pitzer men's basketball defeated Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference opponent La Verne 79-63 on Saturday night at Voelkel Gymnasium.

Farone Collins tallied a double-double as he added 14 rebounds to his career-high 36 points. Freshman Daniel Rosenbaum was the second highest scorer as he added 15 points and six rebounds to the Sagehens' totals.

La Verne was led by Hakim Arnold who tallied 19 points, dished out seven assists and pulled down five rebounds.

Farone-Collins got going early on in the game as he connected on three of his first five shots.

The first half wasn't separated by much as the largest lead only grew to five points. Despite being a close game, La Verne led for 17:34 of the first 20 minutes.

The Sagehens cut the Leopards' lead down to just one point after Rosenbaum closed the half out on an and-one layup that brought the score to 41-40 as the teams went into the locker room.

Pomona-Pitzer came out in the second half and immediately took the lead back from the Leopards as senior Mitchell Finkel converted on a layup to take a 42-41 lead.

The Sagehens broke the game open with 6:21 to go as they tightened up their defense and went on an 18-2 to close out the game. 

Pomona-Pitzer shot 48.4% from the field and went a perfect 12-12 from the free throw line while their defense forced the Leopards to shoot just 35.4% from the field and out-rebounded La Verne 47-28.

The Sagehens next take the court as they host Caltech on Tuesday, February 23rd at 5 p.m. for their senior night at Voelkel Gymnasium.
