Claremont, Calif. - The Pomona-Pitzer Women's Tennis team stayed perfect in the SCIAC with a 9-0 win over Occidental on Friday afternoon at the Pauley Tennis Complex.
The Sagehens, ranked No. 7 in the nation, improve to 10-4 on the year (with all four losses to top 10 teams). Occidental slips to 1-11 on the year with the loss.
Four of the Sagehens playing in singles earned 6-0, 6-0 wins, including freshman Emily Kuo at No. 2, freshman Emily Chen at No. 3, junior Marie Fleming at No. 5 and sophomore Mallory Roth (pictured) at No. 6. Freshman Grace Hruska played at No. 1 singles for the first time and won 6-2, 6-0, while sophomore Maddie Gordon won 6-1, 6-1 at No. 4.
Hruska also won at No. 1 doubles with junior Lea Lynn Yen 8-2, Chen teamed with freshman Shivani Doraiswami for an 8-1 win at No. 2, and Gordon and freshman Maryann Zhao won 8-0 at No. 3.
Pomona-Pitzer is back in action tomorrow when it hosts Chapman for a 10 a.m. contest, looking to stay perfect in SCIAC.
