Redlands, Calif. - The No. 8 Pomona-Pitzer Women's Tennis team won five of six singles matches, all in straight sets, to earn a 7-2 win over No. 22 Redlands on Saturday in a battle of ranked SCIAC teams.
With the win, the Sagehens improve to 3-0 on the season, all of which have been SCIAC matches, including 9-0 wins over Cal Lutheran and Caltech. Redlands suffers its first defeat of the season, falling to 5-1.
Junior Lea Lynn Yen (pictured) picked up wins in both singles and doubles, winning 6-3, 6-4 at No. 1 singles, and teaming with freshman Grace Hruska for an 8-6 win at No. 1 doubles. Freshman Maryann Zhao also pulled off the singles/doubles sweep with a 6-2, 7-6 (9-7) win at No. 3 singles and an 8-3 win at No. 3 doubles, with sophomore Maddie Gordon.
Freshmen Shivani Doraiswami, Emily Chen and Emily Kuo all won singles matches as well. Doraiswami picked up a strong 6-0, 6-2 win at No. 2 singles, Chen earned a 6-3, 6-1 win at No. 4 and Kuo lost only one game at No. 6, capturing a 6-1, 6-0 win.
Pomona-Pitzer has a busy week ahead, starting with a match at home on Monday against preseason No. 1 ranked Emory (currently No. 2).
