Orange, Calif. - The Pomona-Pitzer Women's Water Polo team jumped out to a quick 5-1 lead in the first quarter and went on to capture a 12-6 win at Chapman in a SCIAC match on Saturday morning.
With the win, the Sagehens are now 10-9 overall and 2-0 in conference play on the season, after also defeating Occidental earlier in the year.
Senior Alyssa Woodward had three goals, while seniors Chrissie Alving-Trinh (pictured) and Vicky Gyorffy, and sophomore Morgan McCracken each had two to lead the Pomona-Pitzer offense. Ahsha Earwood had seven saves.
After the score was tied 1-1 early, the Sagehens got four goals from four different people to break open a 5-1 lead, with Alving-Trinh, Woodward, McCracken and Hope Grant finding the net. After Chapman scored to close to 5-2, Gyorffy ended the first quarter with a goal to give the Sagehens a 6-2 lead.
Seniors Sallie Walecka and Sarah Westcott scored in the second quarter to give Pomona-Pitzer an 8-4 lead at the break, and Alving-Trinh and Gyorffy had their second goals in the third to give the Sagehens a 10-4 advantage through three.
Pomona-Pitzer is back in action on Wednesday when it hosts Whittier for a 7 p.m. contest at Haldeman Pool.
