Claremont, Calif. - The No. 8-ranked Pomona-Pitzer Women's Tennis won tight 8-6 matches at No. 1 and No. 2 doubles to take a 3-0 lead and earned a quick clinch in singles on its way to an 8-1 win over Trinity (Texas) on Tuesday in a match-up of NCAA West region teams. 

With the win, Pomona-Pitzer is now 4-1 on the year, bouncing back from its first loss of the season to defending national champion Emory on Monday. Trinity slips to 4-7 on the season with the loss. 

Junior Lea Lynn Yen (pictured) earned wins at No. 1 doubles and singles, prevailing 8-6 with freshman Grace Hruska in doubles and then outlasting Liza Southwick 7-6 (8-6), 6-2 at No. 1 singles. The first set of their match finally ended after all but one of the other singles matches had been completed.

Hruska, meanwhile, was the first to finish in singles as she cruised to a 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 4, and junior Marie Fleming, a late addition to the lineup at No. 6, provided the clincher 6-4, 6-1. Freshman Emily Kuo followed with a 6-2, 6-2 win at No. 5 and freshman Shivani Doraiswami prevailed 6-3, 6-2 at No. 2.

Trinity did pick up a narrow win at No. 3 singles, where Caroline White who 6-4, 3-6, 10-8 in a third-set tiebreaker in a close match with freshman Emily Chen. Chen and Doraiswami prevailed at No. 2 doubles 8-6, while freshman Maryann Zhao and sophomore Maddie Gordon earned a quick 8-0 win at No. 3.

Pomona-Pitzer is back in action on Thursday for a big meeting against No. 7 Carnegie Mellon in a battle of top 10 teams.
