McMinnville, Ore. - Freshman David Gerics (pictured) threw six strong innings of relief, but No. 1 Linfield was able to hold on for an 8-4 win over Pomona-Pitzer on Sunday to complete a three-game sweep.

With the win, Linfield improves to 27-3 on the year, while the Sagehens drop to 12-20 with the loss.

E.J. Lopez got the Sagehens started with a sacrifice fly in the top of the first, but Linfield was able to come back with five in the bottom of the first to take a 5-1 lead. Gerics came on in relief and threw five shutout innings, before finally yielding a run to the Wildcats in the seventh to make it 6-1, as Linfield's pitching staff kept Pomona-Pitzer's offensive threats to a minimum.

Pomona-Pitzer then rallied against the Wildcat bullpen in the eighth, with Sam Fox leading off with a single, Simon Rosenbaum drawing a walk, and Lopez and Jake Bruml following with singles to make the score 6-2 and bring the tying run to the plate with nobody out. One out later, Timmy Novom drew a walk to make it 6-3 and Travis Bowers added an RBI single to close the gap to 6-4, but Cody Walker came on to close the door in the eighth and then finish the ninth to get the save.

Linfield managed two more runs in the bottom of the eighth to give themselves a little bit of insurance, making the final score 8-4.

Rosenbaum and Lopez were each 2-for-3 on the day, while Bruml and Kevin Brice each were 2-for-4. Gerics allowed just four hits over his six innings of relief, striking out two.

Pomona-Pitzer will be back in action this weekend for a three-game series with Occidental, including a home doubleheader on Saturday at 11 a.m.
