Claremont, Calif. - The Pomona-Pitzer Women's Water Polo team won at La Verne 9-4 in its SCIAC opener on Wednesday morning, before falling to Harvard at home 11-7 in the evening.

With the split, the Sagehens are now 13-8 on the year, including 1-0 in conference play.

Junior Alyssa Woodward and freshman Miranda Green (pictured) each had two goals in the win over La Verne, while Woodward had five of Pomona-Pitzer's seven goals in the Harvard loss.

After La Verne pulled within 2-1 midway through the first quarter, the Sagehens scored the next four goals in a row, taking a 6-1 lead early in the third. Green had both of her goals in that run, including the final one, while Woodward and freshman Christina Williamson added the others.

The Sagehens led by as much as 9-2 after a goal from Carter Grant early in the fourth quarter, before the Leopards finished it off with two goals to make the final score 9-4.  Ahsha Earwood finished with 12 saves for Pomona-Pitzer and allowed just the four goals.

In the nightcap, the Sagehens led Harvard 3-1 after the first quarter behind two Woodward goals. The Crimson tied the score up 4-4 at the half, and took a 5-4 lead on the first possesion of the second half before two straight goals, the second coming on a Woodward five-meter, gave Pomona-Pitzer its final lead.

The Crimson responded, though, with a 5-0 run to pull ahead 10-6 at the end of three quarters. Woodward broke the drought with her fifth with 3:55 to play, but Harvard scored on the next possession to end any comeback hopes and killed off the rest of the clock.

Earwood added 13 more saves in the Harvard match, giving her 25 on the day in two contests.

Pomona-Pitzer returns to action this weekend at the Loyola Marymount Zumo Invitational, with four matches in two days beginning on Friday (Princeton, CSU San Bernardino, Hartwick, LMU).
