Box Score Orange, Calif. - The Pomona-Pitzer Men's Basketball team shot just 21-57 of the floor as it dropped a 55-49 road decision to Chapman on Saturday evening.
The Sagehens slip to 16-7 overall and 11-3 in the SCIAC, damaging its hopes of winning a SCIAC title. Chapman helped its chances of earning a postseason bid by improving ot 8-6 in the league (and 14-9 overall).
Pomona-Pitzer was playing without starting guard Michael Cohen, and struggled to find a hot hand in the backcourt. Forwards John Weiss (pictured, 4-for-4, 10 points), Jake Klewer (4-for-6, 8 points) and Gibson Farone-Collins (4-for-8, 8 points) had solid outings, but the five Sagehen perimeter players combined for 9-for-39 shooting.
After trailing by 10 early in the second half, the Sagehens were able to rally, as Weiss hit a three-pointer and a jumper on back to back possessions to cut the lead to 41-37. Pomona-Pitzer got as close as 51-49 on a Klewer jumper with 1:25 to go, but could not score again as Chapman was able to answer with a jump shot on its next possession from Nick Dragovich.
Colin Zavrsnick had 22 points to lead all scorers for Chapman, while Dragovich finished with 15 on 7-10 shooting.
Pomona-Pitzer closes out the regular season next week with a road game at La Verne on Wednesday and a home game with Occidental on Saturday.
