Anaheim, Calif. - The No. 14-ranked Pomona-Pitzer Women's Tennis swept doubles for a 3-0 lead and cruised to an 8-1 win over Chapman on Saturday afternoon at the Anaheim Hills Tennis Center.
With the win, the Sagehens improve to 11-5 on the year and 6-1 in the SCIAC, while extending their winning streak to four matches (which have been by a combined score of 33-3).
Pomona-Pitzer once again got a dominant performance at the bottom of the ladder, as junior Arthi Padmanabhan (Saratoga, Calif.) and freshman Lea Lynn Yen (Fullerton, Calif.) each lost only one game. Padmanabhan took a 6-0, 6-1 win at No. 5, and Yen earned a 6-1, 6-0 win at No. 6.
At the top of the ladder, the Sagehens received a dominant effort from senior Jamie Solomon (Los Gatos, Calif.), who won 6-2, 6-0 at No. 1, and a dominant second set from freshman Mae Coyiuto (Makati City, Philippines), who won 7-6 in the first set (7-4 in the tiebreaker), before winning 6-0 in the second. Freshman Marie Fleming (Boston, Mass.) added a 6-1, 6-4 win at No. 4.
Solomon and Fleming combined for an 8-5 win at No. 1 doubles (up a line from their usual spot), and Padmanabhan and Yen earned an 8-6 win at No. 2 (also up a line). Coyiuto and senior Jessica Hsu (Henderson, Nev.) played doubles for the first time at No. 3 and cruised to an 8-1 win.
Pomona-Pitzer returns to action on Friday for a big home match against No. 9 Redlands.
