Claremont, Calif. - The No. 12-ranked Pomona-Pitzer Women's Tennis team stayed perfect on the season with a 6-3 win over No. 13 Washington (Mo.) on Saturday afternoon at Pauley Courts.
With the win, the Sagehens improve to a perfect 5-0 this season, including two wins over top 15 teams this week (Pomona-Pitzer also defeated No. 15 Trinity (Texas) on Thursday). Washington falls to 2-2 on the year with the loss.
Junior Arthi Padmanabhan (Saratoga, Calif. - pictured) and freshman Lea Lynn Yen (Fullerton, Calif.) won an 8-6 decision at No. 3 doubles to give the Sagehens a 2-1 lead heading into singles, and then won their singles matches convincingly. Padmanabhan won 6-2, 6-2 at No. 5, and Yen won her match 6-0, 6-4 at No. 6.
Senior Jamie Solomon (Los Gatos, Calif.) moved back up to the No. 1 spot and earned a 6-2, 6-4 victory for the decisive fifth point of the match. Solomon played at No. 1 last year before tearing her ACL in the NCAA Division III Championships in May. She began this spring at the No. 3 spot, but gradually moved back up to the top line and won her first match there against Washington.
Freshman Mae Coyiuto (Makati City, Philippines) also won her match at No. 4 to improve to 5-0 on the year, earning a 6-4, 6-1 win.
Pomona-Pitzer will be back in action on Wednesday for a 4 p.m. match against Vassar.
