Tempe, Ariz. - The Pomona-Pitzer Women's Water Polo team dropped two matches at the Arizona State Invitational on Friday, falling 15-3 to the host Sun Devils and 13-10 to Cal Baptist.
The losses drop Pomona-Pitzer's record to 9-10 on the season.
Freshman Katy Schafer (Los Altos, Calif.) had two of Pomona-Pitzer's three goals against Arizona State, which is ranked No. 3 in the country. Sophomore Mahalia Prater-Fahey (San Diego, Calif.) had a team-high three goals in the loss to Cal Baptist.
The Sagehens scored all three of their goals against Arizona State in the second quarter, pulling within 8-3 at one point, but the Sun Devils scored the final two points of the first half and then outscored Pomona-Pitzer 5-0 in the second half.
In the Cal Baptist game, the Sagehens trailed 6-3 in the second quarter, but Prater-Fahey and sophomore Alyssa Woodward (Riverside, Calif.) scored to pull Pomona-Pitzer within 6-5 at the break. However, the Lancers scored all three goals in the third quarter to take a 9-5 lead heading into the fourth, and the teams traded goals the rest of the way.
The Sagehens complete play at the ASU Invittational tomorrow with an 8:30 a.m. match against Hartwick and a 1 p.m. game against Michigan.
