Pomona-Pitzer was at home on Wednesday to
face cross-campus rival Claremont-Mudd-Scripps. Neither team
was able to establish a rhythm in the early going, and 10 minutes
into the game the Sagehens held an 8-2 lead. The defensive battle
continued with the Sagehens able to build a 21-13 lead at the
break. Pomona-Pitzer managed to keep a safe cushion for most
of the second half, but the Stags did pull to within four at 39-35
with just under three minutes to play. Back-to-back one and one's
by Adam Chaimowitz and David Liss put the Sagehens back up 43-35,
and good free throw shooting down the stretch gave Pomona-Pitzer
the 47-36 victory. The Sagehens out-rebounded the Stags 49-38
and held the Stags to just 23% shooting from the field.
Liss paced the Sagehens with 14 points followed by Justin Sexton
with 11. Sexton came up huge on the glass, pulling down a career
high 25 rebounds.
